How can I stop getting bubbles in my RTV mold.?
I am using a 2 part RTV mold material to make molds for casting low temperature alloys. The finished mold looks good except there will always be 1 or 2 small bubbles in the mold rendering the mold useless. What can I do to prevent these bubbles from forming in my mold while it’s curing? Thanks.
I know of two ways that may work for you. First vibrating or lightly tapping may work in causing the air bubbles to come to the surface before pouring. Also, don’t mix very fast, this will incorporate more air into the mixture. You’ll want to pour slowly and in doing so the stream will be very thin and will cause the bubbles to pop before entering the form.The second and best way is to place the mixture in a vaccum for a minute or so. Be careful not to fill your mixing cup too high. The mixture will expand nearly twice it’s size as it pulls the air from your mixture. Then it will relax down to normal size.
