Forestry Trucks: Not Just for Picking Cherries
Equal parts boom truck and a freight or dump truck, forestry trucks are extremely specialized equipment. Used to care for, or to prune tall trees, these trucks serve very specific needs. Forestry trucks are made to reach high branches, and are usually mounted with articulated telescoping booms. The also have provisions for storing lumber or debris that needs to be hauled off.

This is an especially useful function considering how potentially difficult and even dangerous it would for people to do this without the aid of heavy machinery. Not all forestry trucks are created equal, the simple fact is that not all forestry trucks will be used for trees of uniform size. Trees come in different shapes and sizes; there are unique challenges to working with different trees and different conditions. Forestry trucks need to come in different sizes and different capacities too in order to address different needs. There are smaller trucks for smaller trees, there are trucks that have separate engines for the boom, and there are trucks that have only one engine for propulsion and for the boom. The booms vary in length and capacity, trucks with longer and more powerful booms will often have outrigger jacks for stability during heavy lifting. Some trucks have enclosed storage space like dump trucks, others have open beds, depending on what it is the truck will be required to haul.
