Origin Of Oak Tree

Oak is a hard wood tree that produces acorn and growing shrubs. It has spikes (female flower) and catkins (male flower) in one tree to produce flower. In scientific classification, “oak is in plantae kingdom; magnoliophyta phylum; include in magnoliopsida class; set as fagales order; a member of fagaceae or beechfamily; and part of quercus genus”. Oak tree has simple lobed leaves. In details, white oak has smooth leaves; and red oak has end-of hard hair. Acorn as fruit of oak tree has different features based on the type of the oak. White oak made sweet acorn; and red oak produce hairy bitter acorn. These acorns are poisonous for some animal like horse, cow or pig because they have dangerous tannic acid that can damage those animals kidney. Oak tree is a hard wood trunk but quite elastic which is good material to make oak furniture,flooring and other construction matters.

Oak tree grows very slow, but oak tree is a long life tree which can live until 200 until 400 years. That makes oak wood becomes the best material in making oak furniture, since oak wood is resistant from bugs, fungus and durable for long years use. Oak wood has straight grained wood which is impressive when the watery or flakes pattern emerge in the sunlight. It is elastic because oak wood can be bent by steam. In oak furniture, the makers use these patterns as decorations by painting it in classic oak stained.

Oak tree grows in some of countries with regular climate change. There are hundreds of oaks tree grows in China, Japan, most part of northern hemisphere countries like England, Ireland, Europe, and all US continental except Alaska. The reason is Alaska has very short summer season which affect on decreasing of oak variations. Global warming issue influenced oak growth process, since global warming cause unpredictable climate change that some deviation in oak growth.

It durability, strength and elasticity make oak functions as timber. It is good in making oak furniture and flooring. Each type of oak has different advantage in making oak furniture. They are divided from their genus.

Most general oak furniture use white oak and red oak. Red oak originally grows in northern America, and grows about 20 years to be mature. It’s better to use it for indoor oak furniture, because of its open pored. This open pored made an easy access for bugs, germs and fungus to live inside the wood, so red oak isn’t good to use for outdoor oak furniture. White oak mostly used by Englishman craftsmen. Its species is English native oak, which are classic American oaks.
